We are staying in Hallstatt one night in May, and looking for a hotel or pension (B&B) with a great lake view, hopefully not too far from the town center. Could you give us any suggestions? Thank you!

Joanne, Two accommodations that you could look at in Hallstatt are This or This Hotel. Both are located right at lakeside, however you may have to request a lake view room. There are a few others uphill across the main plaza that may have a lake view, but they're not as close to the lake. If the weather is reasonably decent, it's nice to sit in the garden area of either Hotel and have a "cool beverage" or dinner, and watch the ducks wandering back and forth. One important safety tip to mention though. When you exit either Hotel on the street side, be sure to watch carefully for traffic. There's a narrow road between the two Hotels and other buildings, and cars sometimes come through there fairly quickly. I witnessed an "unfortunate incident" on my last visit there, but thankfully it wasn't serious (as a retired Paramedic, I stopped to help but that was somewhat difficult due to the "language issue"). Another option: If you're looking for something very reasonable with a great view from the top of the village, I would recommend Guesthouse Helga Lenz : http://www.hallstatt.net/accomodation/action/view/frmArticleID/150/?lang=en-iso-8859-15 There are only 2 or 3 guest rooms in this big private home. We stayed in the family room on the top floor...more like an apartment minus the kitchen. Very cheap, very clean, lots of room to stretch out, and very nice views. There really isn't anything in this town far from the center...it's quite small.

Hi Ken and Michael, Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately, Lenz is either full or does not take 1 night reservation. I'm waiting for a reply from other two hotels, so hopefully that'll work. Thanks!
