Half board vs. variety

We're visiting Muerren for a week in July. Our hotel offers half-board, but we're not big eaters and $28./person doesn't sound like a deal, since we get breakfast anyway. Are there a number of restaurants to choose from there?

This is Switzerland in the Alps we're talking about. $28 per person sounds pretty good actually.

Many hotels offer half-board on a daily basis. Take it one day if you like, and not the next. It's up to you. You don't say where you are staying, so I don't know if this is an option for you.

Our experience has been that half-board is a great deal---the food is very good, and the portions are not large, so a 3- or 4- course meal won't fill you up but you'll get a nice assortment of flavors. (We aren't big eater either, but appreciate good food).

There are not many "stand alone" restaurants in Mürren; unless things have changed since we were last there in 2007, you'll find only the Stägerstübli (Swiss food) and the Asian restaurant (very good food, but lacking in ambiance). The bakery and others places are options for lunch, but for dinner, it's either those two, your own hotel, or another hotel where you are not on the half-board plan. You can order ala carte ther if you want a small meal. (Hotel Bellevue is one of our favorites for dinner.)

Bottom line, $28 is a good price for dinner, and the food will be good. Your alternatives are to dine at one of the 2 other restaurants (check menus and prices), graze and picnic on food from the grocery store, or dine at another hotel for more money.

My limited experience with eatig out in Wengen,, its way more expensive then you think! And, there aren't alot of cheap eats available unless you picnic.

28 dollars may not be a bad deal for a nice sit down dinner.
