Has anyone ever done one? What would be your recommendation - take the tour offered by ASI(.at) or go it alone? Any help would be much appreciated!

The way this worked about a year ago is: ask your hotel for for the free Innsbruck Club card (different than the Innsbruck Card the TI sells); the card includes free guided hikes in the summer, hikers meet in front of Congress Innsbruck at 0845 each day for a guided hike in the surrounding mountains and you only needed to provide your lunch and water. I'd confirm through the TI (www.innsbruck-tourismus.com) or your hotel that this is still how they do it.

I read a post on another website that warned some of these hikes can last 8 hours - so ask before you head out. We decided to go it alone.
