Guedelon Castle

I'm planning on visiting Guedelon Castle in June. Any suggestions of places to stay or restaurants. I'll be driving from Paris. Thanks,
Elaine

You could probably do this as a day trip. The Heart of France RS tour stops here between Paris and Bourges. It was fascinating and I enjoyed it very much. Be sure to walk around the back and visit the animals. I loved the pigs. We had sack lunches during our visit. I don't know if that is because there aren't alot of restaurants nearby. BTW, I really enjoyed Bourges if you decide to continue driving in that direction.

The closest to Guedelon is Saint Fargeau where you'll find a chateau owned by the same family that is financing Guedelon, a couple of hotels, B & B, and restaurants. In summer there is a sound and light show outside at the chateau. I don't know if it will have started already in June. If you want to drive east from Guedelon, you'll come upon the city of Auxerre. Fifteen kilometers beyond Auxerre is the properous agricultural town of Chablis. There are many hotels and restaurants there, some highly rated. For ratings, you can look in the Michelin red guide book or go online to viamichelin.com. If you are looking for lunch, Guedelon has a food stand with a medieval twist to the food. I remember drinking meade and wine.

We did this last year and stayed at hotel les grand Chenes just outside Saint Fargeau. Lovely English owner. My kids would have easily spent two days at guidelines. Enjoy.

I would like to add that you should go to Trip Reports and look for Andrew's report because one of his goals last year was Guedelon. He and his family rented an interesting place to stay, in a mill, not too far, in an interesting town called Clemcy. He's posted hundreds of photos.
