We have a group of five couples who will be taking the train from Madrid to Sevilla. When I bought tickets for this group when we were in Italy we got a group discount on our tickets from Rome to Florence. Can you get this same group discount in Spain? In Italy I just bought the tickets when we arrived in Rome at a travel agency. Can I do the same in Madrid? About what is the discount? Thanks Bob
There is a group special of 50 per cent off for 4 t0 9 people, but it is only available for round-trip tickets, and only until September 13th, and they must be purchased at least 72 hours in advance. No changes or refunds are allowed, seats are limited, and these tickets must be purchased over the web. You can see all the conditions at www.renfe.es/oferta_verano09/index.html. If your schedule is firm, or if you're only going one-way you'll get a better deal if you just purchase 10 tickets at their "Web" special price of 60% off, with the same no-refund conditions, but available for one-way trips. Go to www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html (don't enter any data here) and click on "Buy Tickets" at the top center. But you can only purchase up to 9 tickets at once, so you'll have to do it in two passes...9 and 1, 8 and 2, 4 and 4, or some other combination, and hope the computer sits you close together...or than you can find some sympathetic soul(s) who will agree to change seats/tickets with you. Tickets can be printed at home. Tickets can be purchased up to 62 days in advance, and since they begin to load fares in at midnight, Spain time, you can start booking the evening before!
Norm, this is exactly the information I need. Thanks for your prompt response. Do you know if the Renfe website has an english version? Bob
Bob...if you follow the instructions I listed, the important stuff will all be in English.
