Grindelwald Youth Hostel

Hi,

Has anyone stayed there before? Is it a good place to base me & my family for 4 days to explore the Oberland area. We will be staying 2 nights in Lauterbrunnen before moving to Grindelwald.

The other option is Muerren. Any recommendations / suggestions as to where to stay.. for clean, friendly, cost-friendly accommodation with easy access.

Thank you!

Are you sure you mean Grindelwald? Perhaps you meant Gimmelwald? Gimmelwald has a hostel and the town is located very very close to Muerren

Hi Clare, I don't know about Grindelwald, but Gimmelwald's hostel was very clean and well run! They had a hot tub that overlooked the mountains I believe.A restaurant and bar that served great piazza. All non smoking, and I think a laundry to wash clothes! Hope this helps. Take care, Monte

Hi Tim, thanks for your post. Yes, I meant Grindelwald. The youth hostel group has a hostel there.. I would think the Grindelwald youth hostel would be a definite ok as they have hostel all over Switzerland.. what I wanted to know was the location.. whether it's easily accessible.

Hi Monte, thanks for your post. I think both you and Tim are referring to Mountain Hostel. I did look it up and yes, that famous tub.. apparently, it's been shut down.. cos of some crazy stuff that was going on.. people getting drunk, beer cans & bottles strewn all over, sex going on (horror).. I can see that Mountain Hostel has very beautiful scenery.. I'm only worried for my kids, both of them are teenagers.. it might shock them.

Am still hoping for more info on other hostels.

Thanks!

Instead of a hostel choose the Chalet Fontana in Muerren. It's a beautiful, clean, alpine chalet with a great British hostess (Denise). It's very cheap and it includes breakfast. She also has 1 apartment (includes breakfast) in the chalet that can sleep up to 6 or 7 people.
