If you have only one night to spend in September, would you choose Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, or Wengen?
Can you recommend a hotel around $120.
By the way, that's for a double with bath, breakfast and parking included.
We loved Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen & recommend it. The room was big and the views were spectacular! However it was the most expensive hotel we've ever stayed in. Doubt you'll find a decent hotel in the area for <$150/night.
Thanks, Debbie: I'll check out the hotel on the web.
I may have to tweak my budget here and there to fit things in. Chic
Good point. Well taken. Thanks. By the way, I was in Grindelwald once several years ago. The thing that caught my attention was the first time I stopped at a red light and cars started honking. Someone came to the window and told me that I had to turn off my engine at red lights. Pollution, you know.
Last September, we spent one night in Muerren at the Hotel Alpina. Our room had a balcony that overlooks the valley below and the mountains were in front of us. This family run, a bit worn, hotel has a great buffet breakfast. As others have indicated, you can get there from Lauterbrunnen. We chose to drive to the Stechelberg gondola, parked the car in the lot and took the gondola up to Muerren. It stops about half-way up at the town of Gimmelwald. We stopped there and walked around this quaint town. Rick Steves' has a walking tour of this town written up in his tour book. You could also stay in this town. There are lovely B&Bs--just make your reservations ahead of time. Have fun in the Berner Oberland.
Thanks, Denise. I'll check it out. I only have the RS book for Germany, but I have to get Austria and Switzerland.

Grindelwald is an easy no because it has traffic - cars and tour busses. Lauterbrunnen or Wengen or Mürren or Gimmelwald is a little more difficult - Lauterbrunnen in the valley the other two high up in the Alps. I think it should be your decision. Cheap accomodations include the Chalet Fontana and the Sports Center in Mürren or the Mountain Hostel in Gimmewald. I don't know of any cheap places in Wengen.
Thank you, Tim: I am pleasantly surprised how quickly so many have responded to my request. Because my lady and I don't go until September, we thought it would take all that time to get any recommendations and helpful hints. I'll check out your suggestions. By the way, I have found many YouTube vids about this area of the CH. Chic
