Green Zones - Germany

I read something about "green zones" in Germany and that you need a "badge" for your car. I'm renting my car in Frankfurt and driving around Germany for 14 days. Does the rental car come with the "badge" or is this something I have to buy myself in advance? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Don't worry. The rental car (if rented in Germany) will have the appropriate sticker.

"The rental car (if rented in Germany) will have the appropriate sticker." If the car doesn't already have one, you should be able to purchase it from the rental agency.

No. These stickers are like vehicle licences or license plates: they're issued by authorised organisations, authorities, or garages not "purchased."

These stickers aren't revenue generating schemes (although there is an administrative fee) like the Austrian or Swiss toll stickers or London's congestion zones.

The Feinstaubplakette is an official document proving that this vehicle belongs to a model which emits particulate matter under a certain level (red, yellow and green stickers).

Well, I plan to rent from Hertz or Avis so I assume that they would have the appropriate sticker or plate for Germany related to this. From what I have read, the tag must be related to a plate, so since the rental car is not my plate nor would I know what my plate number is until I drive off the lot in Frankfurt (where I believe it is a green zone as well), then I would hazzard a guess it is already covered. But that may be too logical...

That’s right. This will not be a problem with either Hertz or Avis. You might wish to ask the rental car desk clerk at FRA about it just to be very confident, but the major car hire companies will already have this covered. The only problem one could expect to have related to this is when the car is rented outside of Germany and then driven into the country. Since you’re renting from a major company at FRA, your car emission license will be compliant.
