If you have a smartphone, get the Michelin Restaurants app. With it we've found good places several times in unfamiliar territory.

In addition to the Michelin, which I use on the computer, we also consult Trip Advisor and Chowhound. There will be recommendations for all the above.

Sorry, I can't recall the name of the restaurant, might be something like St. Marie. Anyway, in Carcasonne, diagonally, all the way in the back from the entrance. The best onion soup we have had anywhere and the casseolet was fabulous. Only other comment regards Sarlat. Although another poster had good things to say, I have had few worse experiences than at Le Rapier.

Le Kaiku in Saint-Jean-de-Luz - I haven't been there in a few years, but I've eaten there several times in the past and have always had a great experience.

Kathy, we can recommend two wonderful restaurants in Bayeux. La Rapiere (make a reservation!) and Le Petit Normande. Two of the best meals we ate in all of France. Both places have a lot of charm and ambiance. You can find more info and reviews on Tripadvisor. Bon apetit!

Chenanceaux- Hotel le Bon Laboreur; nice atmospheric hotel, exquisite meals; walking distance from the chateuax; La Rochelle- a number of nice seafood restaurants line the harbor Carcassonne- one main restaurant within the walls, everyone seems to go to for lunch. We had a wonderful croque Monseur from a cart
