Can anyone share some great stops to make on the 2 hour trip from Leerdam area to (Koln) Cologne, Germany? It will be our first roadtrip in Europe, so I'm open to any suggestions in general, as well as great stops. Looks like we'll be on A57 for 116km, if that's at all helpful to make suggestions... I apologize if that isn't enough information, I'm at the very begining stages of planning our May '08 trip! Best get going on nailing down plans!
Thanks!!
Just wanted to bump this up in case it catches someone eye that may know!! Thanks!
Well, for one you could stop at Düsseldorf and walk around old town or the modern architecture/water lifestyle media harbour, climb the Rhine Tower and watch how that huge river meanders thru the city. Also Düsseldorf is a shoppers' paradise. Then you could visit Schloss Dyck castle, one of the most romantic water chateau type castles I know. I've mentioned it several times before on here: To me it's a must-see in that area. http://www.stiftung-schloss-dyck.de/
Andreas, Thank you VERY much, I will absolutely look into your suggestions!
Dusseldorf will be a new addition to our trip. I'm going to do a bit of reasearch this afternoon. Thanks you again.
By the way since Schloss Dyck Castle's website doesn't show the full beauty of the place I uploaded my pictures of it here: www.schuerrle.com/dyck
Schloss Dyck looks great. I'll put it on my list for my next trip. We have relatives near Koln so we are regularly in the area.
The weather looked great. What time of year? Was it warm as well as sunny?
The pictures were taken some time in early spring of last year. I honestly don't remember the exact date or month anymore. We were all wearing coats in the pictures but as far as I remember we weren't really freezing. But since the gardens are part of the overall experience if you've got the choice go between April and October. There is free parking but for the castle and the main gardens there is an admission charge. They also sell the produce of their farmland and there's a coffee shop/snack bar.
