GREAT Hotels on Paris Left Bank

Hello I love trying new hotels that are GREAT. I recently stayed in "Hotel de l'Abbaye Saint Germain" and loved it. For our next trip to Paris I want something similar. It is a great 4 star but affordable. I like classic style and most of all I like private hotels that offer excellent service. It needs to have a bar. Thanks for your help! If you have a link to their site please post.

The Michelin website is a good way to find good hotels in Paris http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/gbr/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htmThis site is the online version of the well known (in Europe) Le Guide Michelin, or Big Red. They've been rating hotels in France for about a hundred years now (believe their 2009 hard copy edition is their 100th). Don't hesitate to send me a Private Message if you have questions about how to use the site, it can be a bit non-user friendly at first.

I didn't know the Michelin site and am checking it out. I have been using websites like tripadvisor and they are great but sometimes a bit misleading. I am looking for something that has a great service, a personal touch (i.e. not so big that it feels like a factory) and all the small little details that make it GREAT (not just good but GREAT). I find it hard to find that without some personal recommendations. Thanks for any tips and links.

Jason - GREAT, of course, is subjective, but you've been clear enough about the style of hotel you're looking for that, in addition to Kent's Michelin site, I'd suggest trying Karen Brown and her series. Here's a link to her Paris webpage.

Once you have specific hotels to ask about, Tripadvisor should be a good resource - I'm curious what you found "misleading" there. You might also try Fodors' website. It's less budget oriented than the community here.

We have stayed at the Hotel Notre Same many times. I love it, as it is right across the street from Notre Dame and the rooms have a beautiful view. It is also close to the Metro and RER with stops right across the street. Lots of restaurants nearby, places to walk, things to do and see.

Here is the adress:

I just booked 3 nights in September through Travelocity, which had a better price than the website. And I was able to pay in US Dollars which saved me about $70 per night.
