help!!! i NEED a recommendation for a honeymoon type hotel in Amsterdam. I am thinking about changing our reservation due to horrible reviews.... Thanks... RC
Do you have RS guide book for that city? Check out his most expensive recommendations (if you can afford that pricing) and give them a call.
check out hanna penso
We spent 3 nights at the Pulitzer which to me was an overated hotel in a good location. Rooms are spread out in a maze like fashion. There are better hotels in Amsterdam.
I'm going to Amsterdam in November and am leaning toward The Toren - recommended by RS (even calls it "super-romantic"), scores high on Trip Advisor, and I've seen mentioned by others on this site. Haven't been there yet, but that's where my research led me. http://www.thetoren.nl/
"...We spent 3 nights at the Pulitzer which to me was an overated hotel in a good location. Rooms are spread out in a maze like fashion..." The rooms are spread out as you describe because the hotels is comprised of a series a connected historic buildings. If one is looking for a symmetrical cookie cutter hotel, I guess the Ibis above Centraal Station would be a better choice, but I don't see it as a honeymoon destination:) The Pulitzer is where all the A-List celebrities stay when they are in town. If your budget can handle the rates, it's a good place for a honeymoon....IMO. P.s. they also have their own canal boat. For a price I'm sure it can be hired for a private, romantic evening cruise.
HAs anyone heard of the Grand Sofitel? I researched that one and it seems to get good reviews? Let me know please and thanks for everyones responses. RC
Never stayed there, but the Sofitel and Pulitzer are considered to be the two most luxurious hotels in the city. The Sofitel underwent a major restoration a couple of year ago. It borders the red light district, so the area around the hotel is a bit seedy at night; but perfectly safe. Pulitzer is in a very lively "trendy" neighborhood. The second rated hotel on tripadvisor.com is the Seven Bridges. We stayed there and it is wonderful. We stayed in the Garden Room, #5. It is perhaps the most spectacularly decorated room in which we have ever stayed. Breakfast is delivered to your room; there is no common area breakfast room. Rates vary with the room selection. They also vary with time of the year. I believe that the quoted rate for the Garden Room is far higher than we would ever pay, but the actual rate was much more reasonable. As in most Amsterdam "private" hotels, there is no lift. There is a steep, narrow staircase. But, the owners are very helpful with luggage.
We stayed at The Toren in '08 and really liked it a lot. Very romantic. Great location. Very nice staff.
