Graz, Austria.

Thanks to so many who answered my Germany trip 2011. I just lost a very dear friend this past weekend. His ashes will go to his homeland in Austria I will need to take a train from Munich to Graz (rather than Prague) where my friend will have his final resting place. This ceremony will take place during the time I am in Munich. I am not good with train schedules but would like to know how many hours by train this trip would take. I would believe I would only stay there for the service and then continue my vacation traveling. I looked on the map and it doesn't seem too far. Does anyone know if I would have to change trains? I did have a very bad experience on the train from Munich to Frankfort last year.
Thanks for your help

Hi, The duration of the ride Munich to Graz is just short of six hours. Most of the routes require transfering except for two. The 10:27 train Munich to Graz is direct, you get in at 16:23. Hopefully, this departure time is the one convenient for you. There is another direct train but that one arrives after dark. You might want to consider arriving a day prior to the service. What's your destination after Graz? Prague, Vienna?

Thank you so much Fred, for the reply. I will be resuming my vacation after Graz and will then need to find my way to Prague.

If you decide to spend any time in Graz, it is famous for the music academy, (Musikhochschule). Going from Graz to Prague only requires one change of trains...in Vienna but not at Westbahnhof (the station I'm most familiar with). Still you have ample time. I am not familiar with that station, where you have to transfer.
