We're travelling to Spain next month (June) and would like to reserve train tickets, particularly those for the Hotel Train, in advance. After reading of difficulties trying to buy Renfe tickets online, I read a recommendation on this site to buy the tickets through Euraide--and I've attempted to do so. My Euraide contact notified me a month ago that the daytime tickets had been purchased but tells me she still can't get the Hotel Train tickets that I've already been charged for. Any recommendations for a better way of booking a Renfe sleeping compartment in advance? Is this really so difficult that even Euraide can't do it?
Have you tried booking yourself on Renfe website? When I left Barcelona in December I think I remember someone saying they added the booking of sleeping cars to the website.
If your Spanish is good enough (or maybe if not, they probable have someone who speaks English), try calling them.
Either way, dealing with Renfe is difficult, but as one who has slept in the normal seating car, the bed will be worth it.
I book tickets on the RENFE site all the time without problems. The issue may be new schedules across most of Europe, which are due to come into effect Saturday, June 13th. RENFE is notorious for being very slow to get all its new schedule/fare information loaded. You can keep checking back daily until the information finally pops up, then book it yourself. But will you be able to get your money back from Euraide? If it's any consolation to you, there are still very comfortable top of the line "Grand Clase" beds in a double compartment for 90 Euro pp on Friday, June 12th. Slightly less comfortable "Preferente" doubles are still available for about 65 Euro pp.
