Granada Spain in hot July

We are looking into renting an apartment in a 16th c. building whose very thick walls are said to make air conditioning not necessary ... does anyone have experience with that? true? not true?

It appears you live in Spain (?) and if so then you know the weather in July. Sleeping in rooms without AC can be a problem. It's true thick walls of old structures insulate from the heat but they can only do so much. I'm curious: who is telling you that the thick walls make AC not necessary?

we've never been to Granada - and I've heard varying reports about their summers. The owner who works all day in the same building (Paseo de los Tristes area, where it's supposedly cooler than other areas) without A/C is our source. I've been looking for reviews of those who've been there, but no luck so far.

I suppose in theory the owner has a financial interest for saying AC is not necessary, on the other hand they may be correct--it's a difficult call for you to make not being there. People lived in these buildings for hundreds of years without AC. It seems unlikely you will find anyone who has actually stayed in that building or another Granada building with similar walls. What are your other alternatives: is there lodging with AC that you could choose as an alternative for this trip?

yes, understood about owners... I've been looking for something reasonable with a/c - we're 8 people travelling together, and an apt. would be great, but not limited - any suggestions? I did find a small hotel in the Plaza de los Lobos area with a/c - but being on the outskirts of the Albaicin also seems attractive

8 people is a challenge for lodging, an apartment seems best but I have lots of info on hotels but none on apartments in the Albayzin Moorish Quarter. Rick believes that in July and August when the streets are littered with sunstroke victims, hotel rooms are plentiful.

since you have info on lots of hotels... any decent quads with a/c for about E80/night? The hotel I found would be small rooms, but 2tpls and 1dbl for about E155/nt for all three rooms - I'm just not convinced that the location is the best.

I have a list of 17 Rick picks for hotels, but the biggest room listed is a triple and those are priced above €80, and no listing specifies whether there is AC.
