Granada, Spain: Alhambra's Court of the Lions

Hi all,

I'll be visiting Madrid December 27th '09 - January 2nd '10 and am considering a jaunt to Granada to see the Alhambra. I was curious to know if the Court of the Lions fountain has been restored yet. One of my friends visited last year, and the lion fountain wasn't there. I don't want to be disappointed.

Thank you in advance.

We were there last January. I thought the Lion was there but not functioning. I will have to check my pictures.

Yolanda - According to the Alhambra website, the lion fountain is still being restored (not sure how often they update the website). A couple of years ago, I believe there was a lion (or reproduction) in the museum inside the Palace of Carlos V. It was an absolutely amazing place to visit even without the lions at the fountain as that is just a small piece of the Alhambra.

Select Alhambra Guide and then the individual sites are listed, including The Lion Palace.

I just checked my pictures. It was there but it was partially screen and obviously being worked on. Other parts are just as grand.

We were there a bit more than a year ago, and the fountain was screened off.

We were hardly "disappointed", though. One small fountain (admittedly a very pretty one) among a huge complex....I sure wouldn't let that keep me away.

Thanks for the replies, guys. The Alhambra sounds amazing regardless if the fountain is there or not. I'll definitely be going.

We got back from Spain the end of November and were in Granada in late October.....No lions. This fountain is still being repaired. However, go see the Alhambra. It is magnificent.
