Could anyone recommend a middle price place to stay in Granada not far from the Alhambra and Generalife? I will be arriving the beginning of September and it should still be pretty warm then so would need a place with air conditioning.
We are booked at the Hotel Anacapri in Granada for late July.....it had really good reviews both on this website and on TripAdvisor.....we are paying only 108 Euros for a room for 4. If you tell them you are a Rick Steves reader they will throw in breakfast. They've been really helpful with providing us with transportation info.
A second vote for Anacapri. We were there over New Years. But I think you are required to show the Steves' guidebook for the breakfast.
hotel carlos V--great location (next to a police station and above a grocery store) and very close to city center. it is on an upper floor of a regular building (apartments, etc) so does not look like a hotel.
I also recommend the Hotel Anacapri. We stayed there last spring, spotless, nice rooms, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We walked back to the hotel after touring the Alhambra, can't recall how long it took us but remember really enjoying it and it wasn't all that far.
third for Hotel Anacapri in Granada - was there with an RS Spain/Portugal TOur last spring - nice rooms and internet in the lobby - close to everything!
We were at the Anacapri Hotel in Granada last week. It is midpriced and has AC. Rick's tour group going to Spain and Portugal were there also. Very comfortable rooms and a pleasant staff. We had a great free breakfast (show the Rick Book) and we took the bus up to the Alhambra, bus stop only 2 short blocks to the stop from the hotel. Cost 1 euro. I had made the reservations for the Alhambra tickets from the internet. I would also NOT miss the Cathedral of Granada, the Statue of Queen Isabel and Columbus or the Capilla Real! The Alhambra is truly awesome. Los Italianos for gelato was a treat when we came back from being up at the Alhambra. Shopping along the pedestrian streets around the cathedral was fun and the plaza in front of it (the cathedral) had great tapas and beer specials with the locals doing their paseos while we were there. There is a CD place near the plaza and the English speaking owner let us listen to CD's of flamenco before choosing the one we wanted to buy. You will LOVE Granada and the Alhambra! We also followed Rick's tip and rode the bus to the side opposite of the Alhambra and enjoyed a sangria and gazing at that lovely historical wonder the night before we visited. The view of it and the larger city is magnificient. We took the train from Madrid to get there and loved the ride and scenery! Take a light jacket for nighttime.
Thanks to all that posted a reply about where to stay.
Does anyone know if the Alhambra is open on Mondays?
Yes....it's open seven days a week. Make sure you book tickets well in advance at www.alhambra-tickets.es . Access is strictly limited, so you wouldn't want to miss the opportunity.
I'm not sure how you define middle-price, but we loved Roommate Migueletes! Great location and our room had a view of the Alhambra.
Just a thought about Granada - unfortunately we found it utterly charmless except for the Alhambra, of course. One night is sufficient. Just getting up to the Alhambra is a hike, BTW. Leave your hotel an hour before you want to actually start touring the Alhambra.
Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Macia Plaza on Plaza Nueva in Granada? It was also in R.Steves Spain guidebook. I've already booked it, but love to hear any firsthand comments.
If you're down around Plaza Nueva (and you probably will be), the number 30 bus that stops on the south side of the square will run you up to the Alhambra for a euro. Bus 31 will take you for an interesting circular trip through the Albaycin.
Jenny, you didn't find the Albycin area interesting or exotic? I've been to the Alhambra, but never had time to explore the rest of Granada; but I'm going back to Granada in late June with the intent to check out that part of the city. Just one overnight. It's only an hour drive from where I'm spending 10 days in a little town called La Celada. Anyone else have a better opinion of that part of Granada. I'd love to hear of some great tapas bar recommendations!
