GPS in France

We are going to France for 2 weeks and mostly will only be driving 4-5 days, from Tours to the Dordogne area/Sarlat, then on to Bordeaux where we leave the car. Should we rent a car with a GPS (17 euro a day) or bring one from the states?
Do the ones in France have English translation? Thanks

I have brought my own GPS (Garmin's) with a chip with European maps. The advantage of bringing one with you is that you will already know how to use it. If you rent a car with GPS pay attention to the price difference. It may be less expensive to buy one if you don't already own one. I would guess a rental would have an option for English. I know I can switch mine to other languages.

hi, i just hope you dont put too much faith in that GPS. there were a couple families that were up a creek and some died up here cuz they put too much faith into them. happy and safe trails.

I would definitely bring one from home loaded with the appropriate maps. It's just so much easier with your own. Also, most definitely have a paper map. The GPS is a big help, although not necessary, but it does make life a bit easier.

We leased a Peugeot through AutoFrance (from NJ) and picked up the car at Orly. No problem-it had options, we chose English, just be sure you know how to pop the wheel cover if you get a flat tire :( . We don't have a GPS here so that wasn't an option.

We've used our own GPS, a Tomtom, and ones that come with the cars. They all work fine in France, and we drive a lot of little back roads.
