I'm looking for recommendations on lodging in Gordes (Provence). We generally go for small family run hotels or B&Bs that are either in the center of town or within walking distance (under 20 minutes walk) of restaurants. We definitely don't need (or want) five star luxury, and while having a host/staff thats English speaking is nice, we're very comfortable using our rudimentary French to get by. We'll have a car so places with parking or parking nearby are preferred. Any suggestions of places?
When do you plan to go to Provence? The dates of your trip are important because many smaller hotels may close during the winter. We have always stayed in Joucas. We find Gordes to be crowded and a bit over-priced. We do try to visit there but the parking is also a problem. Thanks!
I have to agree with Bev. While I did not stay in Gordes (I was staying in L'Isle sur la Sorgue), I found everything a bit pricier in Gordes. I think you could better to stay somewhere nearby. And parking was not easy. I remember parking down the hill and having to walk up into town. Beautiful little village, though.
Marcus, If you are interested in Joucas hotels, please send me a private message. As I asked, when do you plan to go?
Marcus, in 2010 our daughter and I went on a self-guided walking (hiking!) tour between les Baux de Provence, St Rémy, Eygalières, Isle sur la Sorgue, (then taxi to) Gordes. The hotels or B&Bs were arranged by discoverfrance.com. Every hotel was wonderful and included several fantastic dinners as well. In Gordes we stayed at le Mas des Romarins (which has parking), an easy walk to Gordes proper and a nice hike to the Abbaye de Sénanque. The (pre-arranged) dinner was magnificent, the staff were wonderful and the hotel was very nice and also very comfortable. It was of course too cold to swim the first week in November.
