I will be going to Paris in a few weeks from the UK (England) most likely by myself and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good hostel/hotel or talk about their experiences about the places they stayed?
See Tim's post and recommendation (MIJE Hostels) in the thread "Sleeping in Paris" below this one. MIJE Hostel website: www.mije.com/index_individuels_uk.asp
I stayed at an Etap Hotel in the 14th in Paris - good area, only a 5-minute walk from the Porte d'Orleans Metro stop. I stayed in a double with a friend (a room with a full bed (full as in not a twin or queen or king) and a twin bunkbed above, and a full bathroom) in 2007 for 4 nights and it cost $177 total. Breakfast was included.
Take a look at hostelworld. com - including reviews.
Thanks for the answers so far. One more question to add.... Does anyone know where I can book a single room for myself without having to pay for a double? or does anyone recommend staying in a multi-bed room? I'm just worried about personal items disappearing if I do that.
Melissa , most hostels have lockers. You can lock your stuff up. In Paris a girl at my work stayed at ST Christophers,, she thought it was nice.
MIJE all the way! I stayed at one other hostel that was well-reviewed (Caulaincourt) but it was more crowded and shabbier than the MIJE establishments. By the way, I stayed at dozens of hostels in shared dorms and never had anything stolen. Just don't leave any valuables in the room while you're gone. No one is going to steal your clothes or flip-flops.
The MIJE hostels have single rooms. They cost €49.00.
