A friend and I will be based at the Barnerhuus in Lauterbrunnen for 6 days, hiking all over the place. Does anyone have any suggestions as to good non-touristy places to eat in the area?
Lauterbrunnen doesn't have an over abundance of restaurants. Most are connected to the hotels and have pretty decent food and outside spaces in which to eat. All are touristy but when we were there, they weren't very crowded - end of August. I was surprised at how expensive they were, despite being warned of the high prices in Switzerland. We spent around 50 swiss francs for all of our lunches and more for dinners.
I definitely didn't go to Switzerland for the food and wasn't disappointed...
Hotel Oberland is a wonderful place to eat. Given that the population of all towns in the area is small and there are a number of tourists, and living expenses are high in Switzerland, I suspect that there will be tourists at anyplace you choose.
If you are in Interlaken I highly recommend eating at the cafeteria located in MIGROS near Interlaken West Bahnhof. The cafeteria at COOP by Interlaken East Bahnhof is also a good place to eat, but I think the one at MIGROS is better.
