Good place to stay in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

My wife and I will be hopping around europe for 4 weeks and we are planning 2 night in Rothenburg in July.
I am looking for a nice but simple place near the main part of town. We are both teachers, so cheaper is always better.

Any ideas? Thank you very much for your help!

I can recommend Hotel Klosterstueble which is in the heart of Rothenburg and has parking available. The rooms are very pretty with wood floors, oriental rugs, great beds, and some antiques. Price is quite reasonable for what is offered and they serve a great breakfast. Will stay there again one day when I return to Rothenburg.

I have been twice. I stayed at Gasthaus Greifen and Hotel Klosterstuble. I enjoyed both of them equally. Both have that old ambiance. Both had a great breakfast and a wonderful restaurant.

We stayed at Hotel Kloster Stueble (sp?) this past October which is listed in Rick's book. Great room, not too pricey, good location and very friendly staff. They even helped us find free parking.

We stayed at the Goldener Hirsch last fall. It is a fairly small hotel just a few steps from the plonlein. The location couldn't be better. Their breakfast room looks over the Tauber valley and is lovely. The price was very reasonable too. I booked in on booking.com and got a good price with the non-refundable rate. I would highly recommend it.

JT,

On my last trip to Rothenburg, I stayed at the Hotel Goldene Rose.

There appears to have been some changes since then, and it's now called the BoutiqueHotel Goldene Rose. The prices still seem reasonable, but you'll have to check out the website to see if it appeals to you.

Happy travels!

Hi JT,
We are going to be staying at Pension Elke this June. They are very reasonable, we are paying 46 euros per night for a double room, including breakfast. I haven't stayed there yet, but there are really good reviews on TripAdvisor, and you get 10% off with Rick's book. The website is

Good luck, and I hope you have an amazing trip!

We stayed at Raidel. Rick kind of pans it, comparing it to the Munsters, but I thought the owner, Lorrie, was very nice. The only problem I had is it was on the first car traffic street outside the "fußganger Zone", so there was a lot of traffic. It was a very warm night, and we had to have the window open. The car noise reverberated in the narrow "canyon". Ask for a room at the back.

we stayed at gasthaus spitaltor. very small, private bath. we liked the location and the owner actually watched for a parking place on the street for us so we could bring the car in from the public lot outside the walls.

It's not quite what you asked, but I'm not sure there's 2 full days worth of things to see/do if you stay in Rothenburg. If you explore some of the surrounding area or go on hikes it might be, but we were there a summer back and felt we saw pretty much the whole town in one day.

We had a great stay at Pension Elke, great room, breakfast, very quiet location in the heart of the city. One benefit is the shop downstairs is a combination hobby shop and grocery store - convenient for souveniers and picking up a light dinner.

We stayed at the campground just outside the walls. Simple as it gets, and bakery delivery every morning!
