Good hotel in Paris?

My wife and I will be traveling to Paris in November of '11 and we're looking for a good hotel to stay in while we're in Paris. Can you recommend a hotel that is moderate in price, good central location and within walking distance to most major sites. Thanks in advance.

I have stayed at and enjoyed the Hotel Castex in the Marais district. Their website gives an accurate depiction of the hotel.

You didn't specify what price range you consider "moderate", but two Hotels you could look at are * www.duquesneeiffel.com/ * or * www.hotelparismuguet.com/ * (cut & paste the weblinks inside the asterisks). Both are in the Rue Cler area, which is within walking distance from the Eiffel Tower and other sights, and also has easy access to the Metro (Ecole Militaire station). Happy travels!

I'd recommend staying on Ile Saint Louis (the little island behind Notre Dame), my favorite neighborhood in Paris... Hotel de Lutece and Hotel des Deux Iles are both great.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Au Pacific. Its in the 15eme but close to the metro and walking distance to the Eiffel Tower. Yummy breakfast.

Hotel Empire. Lovely rooms. Great location and on a "neighborhoody" feeling street. Got a great deal on hotels.com last year http://www.lempire-paris.com/. The Sofitel in Montparnasse is a little far but great if you travel out of Montparnasse station. Perfect views of the Tour Eiffel in that whole neighborhood.

We just returned from a week in Paris and stayed at the Hotel Ducesne in the rue Cler area. It is clean, quiet, has a nice breakfast and wonderfully helpful staff. We paid 150 euros a night.

Check out the Hotel de la Motte Pique in the Rue Cler neighborhood. We just returned (10/4) after spending four days there. The concierge "Mo" is a wealth of information. His wife is American, so his English is impeccable. There's a Metro location a half block away, and plenty of good restaurants nearby. The hotel breakfast buffet is terrific, too if you crave something more than croissants after a couple of days. The facility itself is beautifully decorated, the rooms are clean and modern and Internet is free! Whoo-wee! We walked to the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Elysees, the Seine. A ten-ride book of Metro tickets will let you whiz around the city quickly and/or take a bus which makes this neighborhood a good "central" location. It will be cold in November, so wear comfortable shoes and take a warm coat! Walking in cold weather is lovely compared to hot humid summer in Paris. I'm thinking the Christmas decorations will be up, so bring your credit card and Christmas list!
