Good December Activities in France and Surrounding Area??

We will be in France in the first half of December. Are there any recommended festivals/activities one should see in that region? Right now, our schedule is fairly open. Thank you!

Michael,
We found the village of Versailles to be beautifully decorated in December.

Where exactly in France will you be? "France and surrounding area" is quite a large piece of geography.

We will be starting in Lyon, France. We certainly are planning to see Toulouse, Nice and Monaco. Afterwards, we are considering possibly Spain and Italy. Or, we could go the other direction and go to Switzerland, Austria and/or Belgium.

Hopefully next year the Oxford Street christmas lights will be sponsored by a different company and we won't have vomiting elves like last year.

Yes, and they were horrible. Over and over and over again. I had thought I had put that out of my mind. Thanks Philip.
