We are a family of 2 adult and 2 college age sons, traveling to Barcelona, then 3 days in Costa Brava. Enjoy hiking, biking exploring charming towns, and good food. What town would make a good base for exploring this area?

Personally, I really like L'Escala -- it still has enough "old town" to feel as if I'm in a place with personality. From there it is an easy trip to Besalú (medieval village), Cadaques (Dali's home town), Roses (skydiving/kitesurfing). that said, I have a friend who has an apartment for rent in Roses, and would love to have you stay there. Either way, you'll have a bunch of fun in that part of the world. Enjoy the trip.
