Hi, Penny. There's a The Best Western Hotel Christal which is about 2-3 blocks from the train station, and 5 mins to the sites. It's on a quiet street for the neighborhood, and had very nice, large rooms, lift, en suite, etc. I'd recommend. :)

You may be thinking of the Sofitel Munich which is right outside the door of the Munich Hbf (just across the Taxi parking area). It's a fairly "upscale" Hotel, so I'm not sure if that's what you were referring to as "nice"?

We stayed last year at TRYP Muenchen and really enjoyed it. Right next to a metro stop aned easy walking to Hofbahnhof. Got a good deal through Expedia.

Last year my wife and I stayed at Hotel Uhland, which is if you go out the front of the train station and get on the bus, is two stops form the train station. Easy to get to, decent rooms and decent breakfast. We would stay there again but ask for a room in the back to get away from the street noise. As we stayed in June we had the windows open because of no a/c but enjoyed the stay regardless.
