Golden Pass Train Questions

Thursday June 6th I will be flying up to Geneva from Rome and landing at 9:55 am. I intend to leave that morning hopefully on the Golden Pass Train to spend 3 nights in Interlaken, then Sunday the 9th on to Lucerne for 3 nights. Is it OK to split up the ride that way? Should I need a reservation the first week of June, and can I get on their site and make a reservation without buying a ticket from them? I will soon be buying a 5 or 6 day Swiss Pass from Rick Steves, and I believe it covers the Golden Pass Train. Everything I find says Montreaux to Lucerne. Do I have to get to Montreaux from Geneva before I can get on the Golden Pass train, or can you board that train in Geneva? Thanks for your help, David Looking forward to my first trip to Europe, and having to pull it off going solo.

Just take the train from Geneva airport to Montreux. There are direct trains every half hour. You change at Montreux to the narrow gauge Golden Pass. You change again at Zweisimmen because the rail line goes back to standard gauge, then again at Interlaken Ost back to narrow gauge.
