Golden Pass - Break in Interlaken

We're taking the Golden Pass from Lucerne to Montreux. We have a one-hour break in Interlaken OST. Is there any place that's worth a quick hike? Also, for those that took the Golden Pass, what did you guys do for lunch? Did you just eat on the train? I heard about this restaurant COOP in Interlaken. Any reviews? Thanks.

Hi Kalyan, I do this route a couple of times a year and I would not recommend dining on the train as I do not feel it is very good value. At the same time I think an hour would be very tight for a relaxing lunch in Intrelaken. I would recommend picking up some sandwichs and drinks to eat on the train. Also, be sure to bring a couple of bottles of water as it can be expensive to buy on the train. Jim

Ditto Jim. You don't have enough time to do much. Just grab some food and jump back on the train. One treat that you might investigate is the VIP seats that are located on top of the engine. I believe that there are 8 such seats and they will be on the engine of the train that you will board at Zweissimen. The views from these seats are best going to west as you will have a long descent from the mountains into Montreux.

Thanks guys. I shall avoid the train lunch then. So the station in Interlaken has a cafeteria where I might be able to find a sandwich?

Across the street from the train station is a large modern Coop supermarket with lots tasty things to bring aboard the train. The supermarket also has a small cafeteria set-up.
