Going to Versailles on a weekend was worth it to see the fountains

We almost didn't go to Versailles on the weekend because we were worried about crowds but we did want to see the fountains and boy are we glad we did. There are many fountains situated all over the grounds. Some you have to find by walking into formal garden areas. You will need to walk a ways down the hill to see them all. All those fountains flowing are just beautiful. We didn't find the palace all that crowded and once you are outside it is so spacious that you won't feel crowded at all.

Be sure to go all the way down the hill and to the right to the Queen's Hamlet. You get to it from Petit Trianon building. This is a village of quaint, thatched roof cottages and other buildings built for Marie Antoinette because she missed her own village.

" she missed her own village" ,, , well not quite, as she never actually lived in a village , but of course a palace. She was a Austrian Princess before she became a Queen in France.
Marie longed for the " simple " life, just like that nice Paris Hilton did,,, LOL and actually though her Hameau was a good reproduction of what a simple peasants life must be like,, perfumed sheep, and lemonade on the porch ..

Connie you are lucky you didn't encounter the crowds we did on fountain days past, I will likely avoid going on a sat or sun this year because of that, but I agree the fountains are spectacular, and when you think how they ran these , years before electricity or the steam engine, its really quite amazing.

I've always wanted to go see the fountains illuminated at night, but even as a "living in France" haven't yet ..Have any of you? or is the night trip from the city too complicated?

Well, hmmm, I was just repeating something I read while visiting Versailles--sounded sweet at the time!
