we have plans to travel by train this June from Paris to Bayeux...3 days each city. Is it worth it to stop in Giverny with alot of tain travel and backtracking or skip it all yogether? We do want to go there but if it takes too much train time travel, it may not be worth it. We leave bayeux for switzerland so that alone is a day train travel and cant see giverny from bayeux yo interlaken.
I think that if you do not know if Giverny is worth it to you that it probably is not worth it and you've got plenty on your plate this trip. But I could be wrong. Only you can know if it is worth it to you. A visit to Giverny plus managing your bags plus meals plus the trip to Bayeux would probably take up most of a day.
We visited Giverny last May and really loved it. It was a day trip out from Paris for us-very pleasant out in the countryside and the gardens were gorgeous and the Monet house frozen in time. I assume the three days in Bayeux are planned to allow you to see the Normandy beaches-hope you have a wonderful trip.
I loved Giverny...but if you are not into gardens and/or Monet I would pass on it considering your circumstances.
I guess it depends upon how much time you're willing to spend on trains in one day. You could go to Giverny in the morning and stay well into the afternoon. Take the train from Vernon back to Paris Gare Saint-Lazare, departing at 16:53 and arriving at 17:40. Leave Gare Saint-Lazare at 18:10 and arrive in Bayeux at 20:15. If you want to get to Bayeux earlier, leave Vernon at 14:53 and arrive at Gare Saint-Lazare at 15:40. Leave Gare Saint-Lazare at 17:10 and arrive in Bayeux at 19:14. Those are weekday times. The schedule may be different on weekends.
Karen,
That's a tough question for us to help you with. My wife and I have been married for 27 years and she talked about wanting to go to Giverny since we were dating. We're finally going to make it this summer. So it's important to her and me. A bad analogy would be asking a 13 year old boy if he wants to go to Cedar Point if your family is going to be in Sandusky for three days. If you like to garden and like Impressionism then why not? You're that close.
