Next summer planning our next trip. Have to go to France, but where next? I've been to most of western Europe, love Croatia and the Dalmation coast. We love adventure, no tours, good travelers, any idea on what we should do? Always wanted to go to Turkey.
If you have always wanted to go to Turkey, go to Turkey.
Helene - depends on where you are going in France. We took the kids for 3+ weeks a few years ago. Starting in Paris we eventually went down to the Dordogne & the Languedoc - which was amazing. We ended up flying open jaw out of Barcelona. It is an amazing city all on its own and made for a great destination. If we had more time I would have loved to continue down to the coast and then end up in Madrid - that would have been a great route. If, however, you are concentrating in Northern France then maybe a quick flight to Turkey would be ideal.
Hi Helene,
Thank you for your nice post about my question trying to decide about traveling to Turkey, Greece or both. If you have 4-6 weeks you probably can do an overview of Greece, and Turkey after your trip to France. I would check www.whichbudget.com to check flight details from the town you'll be leaving from in France. You could fly to Istanbul and spend 5 days, then fly from Istanbul to Athens. From there you could choose 2 or more Greek islands you'd like to visit--Santorini for one, seems like a great destination. Good luck with your planning!
I agree....if you have always wanted to go to Turkey....go to Turkey. That is one country I have wanted to visit. If it is possible to go there I would go and not look back.
I would google "Turkey sights" and read all the web pages about that country so I could make best use of my time there.
Greece and Turkey are awesome places to visit, and with rather inexpensive flying they are very accessible from France. Going from Greece to Turkey via islands is excellent, and you can manage places on mainland Greece, the islands, and various places in Turkey, especially if you go inland (where it's REALLY cool).
You want plenty of time though, because Greece and Turkey can really make any visitor want more. Not to mention, they are very reasonable places in terms of cost to visit!!
I think that if Turkey holds your fascination then you should go there. I was in Istanbul for a full week and never once got bored or found myself without something interesting to do.
Just the location of Istanbul itself was stunning.
I am a great history fan and quite enjoyed the museums and various mosque that I visited.
