I am in need of lots of help in selecting an itinarey and plans for a Denmark trip. Our daughter is staying in Svenborg with Rotary and we are traveling to visit Feb 15 - 25 - we have a time share in Copenhagen - but thats its for our travel plans. Should we rent a car? Is train travel recommended for trips to Germany etc. If this was the first and only time you were going to travel to that region - keep in mind all of our expendable income goes to college tuition :-) - what are the top things you would see and do!!?
February might not be the best time to visit but you can still make a good trip out of it. Not sure if Tivoli will be open, but it certainly won't be the same in winter as in summer. For trips outside Copenhagen, I highly recommend the Viking Museum and cathedral in Roskild. Well worth the visit. That is easily accessible by train. Helsingor is a delightful town with a castle to visit. It's easy to reach by train but a drive would allow you to see the coasline and courtryside along the way. Halfway between is the Louisiana Musuem of modern art. If you don't like modern art, it might be skippable in winter (it has beautiful grounds). Germany is not very close to Copenhagen. I'm not sure it'd be an option with only 10 days. I don't have enough experience to advise on trips elsewhere in Denmark or nearby in Sweden.
I thought we might not be traveling during the best season, so thanks for some ideas we'll be sure to check out
February is one of the coldest months in Denmark with temperatures staying near or below freezing, so your options are limited. If there's any way you can get the time share when it's warmer (Apr/May?) it would make things better for you. I guess you know that Svenborg is quite a distance from Copenhagen; about 2½ hrs by train. That said, trains go everywhere, so no need for a car. Lots of things to see in Copenhagen, although Tivoli will be closed. Stockholm would be a good place to visit if you can get away for 3 or 4 days. Berlin would be another good destination.
