Going to be in Paris 3rd week of March...

I know it will be cold, rainy and the flowers won't be in bloom. What's a good day trip from Paris - excluding Versailles - via train? Or have you taken one of those escorted bus tours from Paris? If so, which one did you really enjoy? I would prefer to focus on one town as I dont like to spend only 45 mins in one spot only to have to jump on the bus to hit the next one. (I would like to see chateaux and cute little french villages) Thanks!!!!!

Chartres, if you'd enjoy the Cathedral. Other day trips from Paris by train or tour are to these chateaux:Vaux-le-VicomteFontainebleauChantillyOr to these:Giverny (Monet) - except it's closed until April 1Auvers-sur-Oise

If you decide to go to Chartres, I would warn you that however cold it is outside, it will be colder inside the cathedral.....very thick stone walls and no heating. We went in late April and nearly froze. But it is definitely beautiful. I'd love to go back on a much warmer day!

I checked out Parisvision but it looks like most of their tours start in April. I guess March is part of the low season and not many tour companies operate then????

lots of good suggestions above. Monet's Gardens in Giverny might still be closed in March.

Susan is correct, Monet's house and garden in Giverny are closed until April 1st.

Hi Hazel,
We were in Paris this January--we spent a total of 8 days just in the city and found lots to to. Would you consider just staying in Paris and visiting different sections of the city? It might be less hectic. Just a thought...
