I am looking for suggestions of how to go from Milan to Lucern. Is Euro rail pass the best option or purchasing a rail ticket at the station viable?
Thanks
A railpass would be a waste of money. Yes, you can buy tickets at the station, but you will pay more. If you book Milan to Arth-Goldau on a Eurocity train well in advance (up to 120 days allowed) on trenitalia.com, you can get a Smart fare as low as €22.00. The standard 2nd class for that leg is €61.00. Discount fare tickets are for a specific departure date and time and are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. Be sure you can commit before booking. There is frequent regional train service from Arth-Goldau to Luzern. The fare is 12.60 CHF. Buy your ticket when you get to Arth-Goldau and hop on the next train. You can find detailed timetables for the entire route on either the Swiss Rail site or the German Rail site.
