Has anyone done any of these train trips in Switerland? If they have what do they recommend? Which ones are best? Do they recommend places ot stay along hte way? Any help accepted :)
We did the Golden Pass, and it was nice. A Swiss Pass will cover the cost, but you need to pay for reservations. You "do" realize that normal Swiss trains cover the same routes, don't you? So keep that in mind. The scenic trains are nice, but not necessary. The Glacier Express I would NEVER do because it's so excruciatingly slow, and my idea of a Swiss vacation is NOT sitting on the slowest moving freight train in the world.
We have done both of these more than once and once, did the Bernina followed by the Glacier. The Glacier is is much longer in miles and in time. It takes essentially all day. What you can do is land in Milano, take the train to Tirano (note spelling!!) a sort trip, and in Tirano catch the Bernina to St. Moritz or Chur. The next morning take the Glacier from either city to Zermatt. We have done that twice and it is a lovely trip. If you have to choose one, take the Glacier, it has a greater variety of scenery. You can write me for more info if you like.
