Giverny in late October?

We'll be in Paris the last wk in Oct. Would love to return to Giverny, but am wondering if there's much left to see in the gardens that late in the season. Any thoughts?

I believe the Gardens close on November 1, we were there last week and it was still magnificant. The gardens by his house were still in beautiful and of course the water pond was just like the paintings. If it was open I'd take a chance. It was awesome.

"but am wondering if there's much left to see in the gardens that late in the season." You're asking about the flowers - the garden closes Nov 1. There's a reason for that. Go here for the Garden Calendar of what's blooming in October, a short list: http://giverny.org/gardens/fcm/calendar.htm#Oct

Jean - I was in Giverny the last week of October a few years ago and felt it was worthwhile. There are a lot of fall flowers, obviously, and the Grand Allee was completely covered with nasturiums. Be sure to take time and walk around the village too.

Thanks for the input. Looks as if it could go either way, depending on the weather. If there's not an early frost, it might be feasible. Definitely not the best time of year!

I would take a chance on it-the house alone is worth it and I imagine those nastursiums will bloom until frost. They love cool weather. We visited Giverny last May and loved it. In the village we enjoyed eating at the charming Botanic Cafe-a garden shop, gift shop, and small cafeteria all in one in a converted barn.

I visited Giverny 9/28 of this year and there were still enough flowers in the French garden (in front of the house) to enjoy the beautiful colors - not sure what will be left in Oct. It looked like about 1/2 of what's there when it's in full bloom but was still very enjoyable and I took lots of pix. The Japanese garden (water lilies, weeping willows, etc.) was also lovely. There were fewer crowds than in May and early Sept, so that was nice too! Either before or after you go to Giverny, be sure to see Monet's wonderful paintings of his gardens in l'Orangerie and Musee Marmottan (Mo - La Muette on the West edge of town), a private lesser-known Monet museum.

Lots of good suggestions, especially for anyone reading this thread who's not been to Giverny before. I've visited in April (wonderful tulips & daffodils) & July (ahh...the roses!)...but never this late in the year. I second Holly's suggestion about l'Orangerie & the Marmottan. Still thinking I'll wait till the last minute & see what the weather does...here's hoping!
