My wife and I would like to stay in a gite for a week in Burgundy. We have not been having success in accessing the www.gite.com website (only one choice here) or Rick's other site which shows up only in French. Actually, after listening to the podcast we would like to stay at Steve Smith's family gite. How do we find this gite? Are there other good gites in Burgundy we should consider?
try www.airbnb.com
Gites-de-France is probably your best bet. Another one that's used in France is www.abritel.fr. I've rented through there twice.
Although we have not yet stayed here, we have reserved a week at http://www.france4two.net/ for this September. So far our dealings with the owners (English speaking) have been easy and helpful. All of the reviews we have read for this location are very good.
We will be staying a week north of Charolle in a house that we found on HomeAway. You can also check VRBO. Whether they fit the definition of a "gite" or not, I don't know. Have you looked at the Graffiti Wall? There is a section there about French gites. You will have to read through the list to pick out the ones in Burgundy but you can read the comments to see if you would be interested in any of them.
We used athomeinfrance in 2011 for a stay in both Burgundy and Provence. They were great to deal with - all via check in USD. The home we stayed in near Beaune was outstanding and can be rented direct via the Canadian owners: http://www.graperentals.com/
