I will be leaving France by train on a Sunday night for Spain and want to see Dali Museums in Figueres, but they are closed on Monday. Would you take the train on to Girona for a night, as I've read it's interesting, or go straight to Figueres and hang out there for a day...the plus being not having to go from Girona station to hotel and then back and to another hotel the next day. Is Girona interesting enough to spend a day there? Or is Figueres similar enough to stay there? From Figueres we'll go to Barcelona, after hundreds depart from a convention that is tying up hotels & apartments.
Thanks for suggestions!
I would opt for the one city stay...Figueres based on the transportation issue. I have visited both cities (about 4 or 5 years ago), and there is not that much difference between the two. The Dali Museum is an experience, but not one that I would make a concerted effort to return to see. The Dali house on the coast to me was much more interesting, but the house is about all that is there as well.
You will be changing trains from the French TGV to the Spanish Renfe in Figureres-Villifant. Make sure that you know how you will handle and store your luggage. I dont' think that there is luggage storage at the train station. However, if you are spending the night there, all the better as you can store your luggage where you will be staying.
Thanks to you both. I read there is a wonderful restaurant in Figueres, so that could occupy us for a while, too!
We're planning on going to Figueres as well. What is the wonderful restaurant that you've heard about?
