We're travelling to Gimmelwald in mid-October and as we checked on what the weather's like right now in Gimmelwald, realized that we might be heading into snowy conditions. Does anyone know what the weather's going to be like in mid-October and what to be prepared for? We are hoping to do some hiking as well so if you have any advice clothes-wise, that would be great too.
Click on Rick Steves tours elsewhere on this web site. Click on a tour that includes Gimmelwald. Check out the bottom right hand column and you should see "Weather in Europe". Click on that and check for October in Gimmelwald. I hope I got that right - if not someone on this web site will correct me.

Many thanks for the tips and websites. It looks like I'll be packing my heavy-duty winter apparel for October! Brrrr
My husband and I traveled to that area in mid-November a few years ago and, as others have pointed out, the weather was very changeable. We did not have snow but it was very cold and windy one day, and sunny and slightly warmer the next. My advice - layers, fleece, hat, gloves, and no cotton of any kind! Remember, cotton kills so save it for your summer travels.
I am currently enjoying a morning coffee in my hotel in Mürren looking at a spectacular view. Yesterday it was raining and the temperature was in the 10's (C). Today is sunny with an expected high of 15. The other posters are correct that the weather can turn on a dime here. However the only snow is at the higher elevations, but it is still muddy in Mürren with the recent rains. I would make sure that your hiking boots are waterproofed. Happy hiking!
Wet and muddy Mürren can happen any time of the year. We spent 4 nights in the Chalet Fontana in June and 3.5 of those 4 days was rain :-(
Like Tim we had 3 days of rain and clouds during our trip to Murren in August, so Mark I am jealous!
