This week we are visiting a friend in Switzerland and when he asked me what I wanted to see, I suggested Gimmelwald. At first he thought I meant Grindelwald, but once we got that straightened out, we were on our way.
Twenty minutes or so from the gondola, we stopped at a gas station and my Swiss friend struck up a conversation with someone parked next to us. I went something like this:
Local: Where you headed?
Friend: Gimmelwald!
Local, looking at him through squinty eyes: You mean Grindelwald, right?
Friend: No, Gimmelwald.
Local: Why do you want to go there? Most people take the gondola up to the top or want to go up the Jungfrau.
Friend: We are taking the gondola to Gimmelwald and then hiking up to Mürren.
Local: Ah. That's a good trip. Have a great time!
I can not even begin to tell you how beautiful Gimmelwald is. I highly recommend it to anyone who has the chance to go. The best 11 Franks I have ever spent!
