What Rick Steves book covers Ghent? I have heard great things and want to go in a few weeks using the Euro Star, but have no idea where to stay once I arrive. If anyone can suggest where to stay and/or which Rick Steves covers Ghent---many thanks!
I don't find it covered in any of his books. Rick is deliberately selective in what he covers, and does not try to cover all destinations. One of the other Belgium guidebooks will cover Ghent: Lonely Planet, Michelin, etc.
I too heard great things about Ghent. So I made a day trip from Brugge for a visit. Well it was a disappointment to me and especially in comparison to Brugge. I would have preferred an additional day in fantastic picturesque Brugge. All opinions are so relative so I suggest doing your research first.Rick does not cover Ghent in his books. (maybe for good reason).hope this helps alittle.
If you have time, Ghent is worth a visit. Just don't expect a museum city like Bruge. It's similar to Antwerpen, in that it has all the hustle, grit and vibe of a hard-working modern city, but also has enough old architecture and sense of history and heiritage to provide interest for a traveler. Lonely Planet has a good amount of information on practicalities.
