marilynne, The usual site for booking in France is www.sncf.com but I'm not sure of the method for booking online as that's not something I ever do. You can easily buy tickets in Nice a few days before you'll be travelling. Hopefully the others will have some comments on booking with SNCF. Happy travels!

Marilynne actually for best price you can book with idTGV 120 days in advance, as I did for last summer, getting 40 euro one ways from Paris to Nice in first class( bonus, since I usually book 2nd class but this was only a few euros more)
idTVG is same train as regular TGV ( but your cars are farther down the track I found, lol ) but its like the official discount sales site for TGV and it does vary in that you must print your tickets at home and bring them with you, there is no pick up at station or getting them by mail like with TGV. We had some hassle buying them with our CC , but after contacting them a few times we finally managed to get our tickets.

I've found that I cannot book them using a debit card, but have no problem booking with a credit card.

For going between Nice and Paris, you should also consider flying. EasyJet has low prices if you book far enough ahead and follow their luggage restrictions closely.
