Getting to Mauthausen from the station

I am going to Mauthausen on my way from Vienna to Salzburg by train. I've got the train part figured out, but I'm wondering about getting from the station to the camp. I'd like to avoid the long walk since I'll already be arriving in Salzburg later than I'd like.

Rick's book says to just grab a taxi, but I've come across a few blogs online where people described the trouble they've had getting to the camp (most ended up walking). Are taxis (or a bus or anything) readily available, or should I call ahead for a taxi to meet me when I change trains at St. Valentin? I'm not terribly pressed for time, but the 2 hours that it would take to walk is pushing it.

If not arriving by car, taxi or walking the 3 mi. are the only option. The city of Mauthausen should have taxi service available, but since you are arriving in St. Valentin (across the Danube) arranging for a taxi there makes more sense. As popular as this KZ Memorial is, better transportation options would be desirable. Let them know that when you see
