We will be in Spain and Portugal in March, and we are looking for the best way to get from Sevilla to Lisbon. Open to any options... train, bus, car rental, etc. Don't want to spend all day getting there, however. Thanks!
If 'best' is this criteria - 'Don't want to spend all day getting there' Fly, with at the very least Vueling in an hour and a half, probably three hours accommodation door to door. The car journey will be four plus hours. (If this a one way car rental, you will have an international drop off fee to consider.) If you advise greater than nine hours plus on the bus and fifteen by train is not onerous, I will provide the information.
The most reasonable option is to fly. There is no direct rail link, the bus ride is lengthy and to drive entails very expensive dropoff fees.
what we did was take the bus (nice, clean, fast, cheap) from seville to faro, portugal, where we spent the night and then rented a car and drove (via a few other stops) to lisbon. this was the only way to rent a car w/o an exhorbitant drop-off fee. however, if in a hurry, (why? portugal is beautiful--see it!) this may not work for you.
The only ways to "not spend all day getting there" are (a) fly or (b) take the AVE to Madrid and spend all night getting there on the sleeper. There might be a night bus, too. Fly.
