Hope someone here can help me.
I am landing in Orly and then starting my itinerary in Bordeaux (staying in Paris on my way back). We will be renting a car in Bordeaux, but I understand it'll be a long drive from Orly, about 6 hours. So TGV seem to be a better option though we are not light packares. What is the best way to get from Orly to Bordeaux via train? how much time should I allow between landing and boarding the train? Is there a shuttle from Orly to train station in Paris? how much is a taxi? Our friends are arriving the same day about the same time to CDG but it probably makes little sense for us to get to CDG to meet with them and then take TGV to Bordeaux. It seems each couple will travel on their own to Bordeaux and then we will meet there. Thank you in advance.
You can actually drive it in about five hours from the south side of Paris - - but that's a mean trip to start the minute you get off the plane. For the Orly crowd, it's three or four hours by train from Paris Montparnasse. Figure an hour to clear immigration, and another to get into Paris - - then leave some leeway if you're buying advance tickets because that's optimal and very tight. I think the Roissy mob can either go direct from the airport with no change or will have to go in to Montparnasse, depending on arrival time. To keep it simple, I'd conglomerate at Montparnasse and press on together - - you're both about the same time away. If the others can get the no-changer, I'd bet they won't buy into it. Maybe so, you'd still chug in to Bordeaux at about the same time.
