Hi guys I'm planning to take a flight via Austrian Airlines, which will arrive in Nice at 2235. I'm just worried about getting into town to my hostel - a taxi is expensive so that's not really on my list of things to do. I understand that there are two buses: 98 and 99. I believe 98 finishes at 9 pm, while 99 runs until midnight. According to their brochure (http://www.lignesdazur.com/ftp/lignes_FR/ligne%2098%20ITL%20(au%2017%2012%2009)%20Francais%20%20-%20Anglais%20.pdf) I understand that at night after 2100, the bus "serves Nice Railway Station on request". Now I'm a bit confused as to what they mean by "Nice Railway Station." Does it mean Gare Nice Ville or some other train station? Also, what does "Gare SCNF" mean in the context of Nice? Would really appreciate any help I could get here! Trying to book plane tickets and am trying to make decision to pay more (and arrive in the day) or much less (and arrive at night).
"Nice Railway Station" in this case means Nice Ville, the main station in the center of Nice. SNCF is French National Rail. Nice Ville and the outlying stations are all SNCF stations.
Karn, You'll have to decide which option is most cost effective - re-booking to an earlier flight and paying more OR staying with your original plan and using a Taxi. The airport is not that far from the centre of Nice (it's visible from the Promenade des Anglais), so a Taxi shouldn't be a huge expense. Good luck!
Taxi info: http://en.nice.aeroport.fr/Passengers/Directions-and-parking/Getting-to-the-airport/Taxis#prix Bus will take you to the train station. At 11:00 or so at night, the train station can be a bit doggy. You might want to opt for the cab. I know it is a lot more, but if you do not know your way around or to your hotel, it might be worth the fee.
Karn, As John's link shows, a taxi at that time of night will cost 27-32 euro. The link you gave shows that it is bus 98, not 99, that runs until 23:50. Which hostel are you staying in?
