My husband and i will be arriving at CDG airport and would like to know the best method of transportation to our hotel. The hotel is Best Western Premier Louvre on 141 rue Saint Honore. Can someone help? We will be rolling a piece of luggage each. Very active, don't mind walking. Just didn't want to look like a tourist ripe for the scamming. Thanks to anyone with info.
Dragging a suitcase and not looking like a tourist, got it. Ride the RER B from the airport to Les Halles, walk five minutes with suitcase not looking like a tourist by carrying Le Monde and wearing a scarf. :)
Thank you Pensacola!! I'm in the market for a Hermes as we speak. Glad to know Les Halles is only 5 mins. That was my original plan, but I needed to speak to an experienced traveler. Thank you so much!!!!
Do you have a RS Paris Guide Book yet? If so, great. If not, I would suggest you get one as it has lots of great information that helped us when planning for our stay in Paris, including transportation from CDG into town.
kim, The "best method" is somewhat a matter of opinion. I typically use the RER and Metro for travel from the airport to my hotel, and haven't found that to be a problem so far (although during rush hour, the Metro can be crowded). You might find it useful to have a look at the excellent parisbytrain.com website, as that has a great description on using the RER for the trip from CDG. You can buy RER tickets at the Kiosks if you have "Chip & PIN" credit cards or Euro coins. The other option is to wait in the queue at the ticket office. As you're "very active, don't mind walking" you could walk from Chatelet, however the Louvre Rivoli Metro station appears to be closer to your hotel. When you arrive at Chatelet, you'd need to transfer to Metro Line 1 (direction La Défense), which is only one stop from Chatelet. Happy travels!
Rivoli is indeed the closest station and would probably be the one normally used when moving around town. Passing through Chatlet/Les Halles, however, creates a special circumstance. The sucker bills itself as the largest underground station in the world. It's a bunch of grins. Cutting through the tunnel and popping up at Les Halle's and surface-walking will put you at the hotel before you could wiggle yourself through the underground complex and find the platform for Metro 1, let alone wait for and ride a train, let alone walk to the hotel. To get above ground in the right spot, hop off the rer and follow the signs for Metro 4, then take the exit to the surface.
Thanks to all who have responded to my question regarding getting from CDG to my hotel. All the info is useful, and yes, I do have RS Guide to Framce and Paris. As i like to keep things simple, I will take RER to Chatelet and then exit from underground closest to my hotel. Walking will do me good. Not that far. Thanks for the Metro info!!
