Getting a Taxi in Paris

Hi there, new to these boards and to visiting Paris. We are heading off in September and staying at my brothers apartment near the Paris Mosque, Rue De Quatrefages [Latin Quarter?] How easy is it to get taxis in and around the area? More specifically we may need to get one early in the morning [say around 0600 hrs] to get to CDG for a flight to the UK.
Many thanks
Pete

You may want to set up a private shuttle for that time. You could find a taxi at a local taxi stand or hotel. There are stands at many locations. Also, if you schedule a taxi to pick you up, the meter starts running when the driver leaves the garage, not when he picks you up.

There are many good shuttle services available. http://www.parishuttle.com/ is one that I have used.

Ok, I was wondering about that. I was thinking of booking a shuttle for when we arrive from Canada and then maybe just booking a return trip at the same time. We will be flying into CDG but are unsure as to whether we will fly to the UK or take the Eurostar. Shuttle would be less hassle I would think. I take it that Parisvision are very reliable and will turn up when requested etc?

Take Metro line 10 and the RER B and you can be at CDG by 06:30. The fare is €8.20.

However, IMO the Eurostar is far and away the best choice for Paris-London. City center to city center in under 2 1/2 hours.

Pete, i would prebook a taxi or shuttle if you need to get there that early.

Thanks for the help. Its a toss up between flying British Midland to East Midlands Airport [visiting family in Nottingham] or taking the Eurostar from Paris to London then a train north to Nottingham. There is quite a substantial difference in cost between the two, with Eurostar being more expensive. But there is also the time frame to consider. Would the plane be quicker than train? I mean we would have to arrive at the airport early etc. [no problem at the other end in the UK though]

Pete, I always found CDG to be a bit chaotic and have given myself 2-3 hours, even going back to the UK. That may be just me.

If getting a taxi that early in the morning is proving to be a challenge, then I'd bump to the next time available.

Ask your brother what he'd suggest...
