Germany Trip-Is this Feasible?

My gut says that day two is too tight. Plus, what happens if the weather is cloudy? Here's what you can do to give yourself a little more breathing room on day 1. Don't bother driving the Romantic Road. It's just a secondary rural route that links togehter several attractive towns. The views from the road are nothing special for that region of Bavaria. Instead, just jump on the Autobahn and head south to Lindau. The views from A7 along this stretch are just as good as anything you would see on the Romantic Road, and you'll save yourself a few hours of driving time.

Thank you for the suggestion regarding our route. We will be driving the Romantic Road from Wurzburg to Rotenburg the day before, so perhaps this will suffice for the Romantic Road for us? I hadn't planned on fitting in Lindau, but keep hearing so much about it and I became tempted if we could fit it in!

Agree with Tom about the first day. The second day really depends on what day of the week you're doing it all. If it's a Sunday, you may be able to do it if traffic is good around Munich. If there's traffic around Munich, like a Friday afternoon, it could take twice as long as one would normally plan on. If you plan on rolling into the car rental return lot at 7pm, then maybe you could fit in a quick trip up the Zugspitze, but if you need to have it returned and be in the airport at 7p, I would be nervous the whole day about making it.

No flight to catch, we have 2 nights in Munich and then a bus trip to Freiburg and much vacation after that...7 p.m. is just the car rental return time right now. I could make it later, too, if that is smarter.

Oh, and day 1 is a Sunday. Day 2 (the day driving through Munich to the airport to return the car) is a Monday.
