Germany Train Questions

We are flying into Frankfurt & plan to take the train to Rothenburg ob der Tauber after landing. I understand that the train goes right from the air terminal. Should I book in advance via the DB Bahn website or can I wait and buy the tickets at the station. Our flight in is notoriously late and I don't want to buy ticket I can't use. I think the airport station indicator on DB Bahn is "Frankfurt(Main)Flugh". Is this correct? Appreciate any advice on handling train tickets and travel in Germany. Thanks.

Regular tickets are 44 Euros each on the fast trains. Tickets for slower regional trains are about 34 Euros each. To do this trip inexpensively, purchase a Bayern Ticket (29 Euros) from a DB ticket machine at the airport, good for 2-5 people on weekdays after 9 am for travel on the regional trains within Bavaria (Kahl to Rothenburg in your case.) Also purchase one-way tickets from a RMV ticket machine (local travel authority) for the 1-hour trip on the regional train from FRA to Kahl for the first part of your journey (7.30 each) for a total price of 43.30, or 21.65 each, assuming "we" means 2 people. If you happen to be arriving on Sat or Sun, a "Schönes Wochenende" ticket gets 2-5 people to R'burg or anywhere else in Germany on the regional trains at any hour for 39 Euros - just buy it there from a machine. To find itineraries for the regional trains, check "only local transport" under "means of transport" when searching here: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en If your trip is well in the future, you might look into advance-sale tickets for the faster trains (29 Euros for two) but those are trains you can't miss if you're late, your concern, I'm sure. Yes, that's the correct name to input. But it only specifies the airport, which has 2 stations, one for long-distance fast trains and one for regional trains - so that should be followed by "Regionalbf" if you plan to do the regional train thing.
